Eric Altamirano

Eric Altamirano (born August 8, 1966) is a former Filipino basketball player. He is currently the head coach of the National University Bulldogs.

Early career

Before UP, he went to San Beda College and pursued HS career there and gave the Red Cubs a string of championships. Altamirano played college ball for the University of the Philippines in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, where he won a championship in 1986, and was named the Most Valuable Player that same year.

PBA career

Altamirano would later play in the Philippine Basketball Association for Alaska, Pepsi, and Shell.

Coaching career

Assistant coach and UP days

Altamirano ventured into coaching, and has won two championships in the PBA. His first try happened in 1996 when he led the University of the Philippines to a final four slot before giving it away to Ryan Gregorio. Before leading Purefods to a PBA title in 1997, he was Chot Reyes' vice at Purefoods in 1995 until 1996.

Head coach

After leading the Cowboys in the All-Filipino Conference, he later moved to the Mobiline Phone Pals and gave them a "special" championship, the 1998 PBA Centennial Cup. He returned to Purefoods and gave them a string of decent finishes. After being hired by Jong Uichico as the RP Men's Basketball team assistant coach, he gave his position to his assistant Ryan Gregorio. After 2 years of not coaching a PBA team, he coached to Coca-Cola Tigers during the 2005 PBA Fiesta Conference. Eventually, he was reassigned and appointed as the Project Director for the San Miguel All Stars.

RP Youth team head coach

He is the present coach of the Nokia Pilipinas Under 18 Mens basketball team. Handled of the Nokia Pilipinas Men's National under-16 national basketball team of the Philippines, that placed 4th in the Fiba Asia U 16 Mens Tournament in Johor Bahru in November 2009.,[1] and Project Director of the National Basketball Training Center of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, the country's national basketball federation.[2] Created Coach E Basketball School

Personal life

He is married and has three children.
